P8 Adjusting the circumferential clearance of hinged parts

Adjusting the clearance of moving parts, such as windows and doors, is essential for preserving the finish. By reducing the gap, you prevent damage from rubbing or impact, thereby enhancing the durability and protection of the wood.

What do you need?

Working methods

P8.1 Check that the circumferential at least meets the following standard:

Hanging side: 2 mm;
Top: 2 mm;
Closing side: 3 mm;
Bottom: 5 mm turning to the outside and 3 mm when turning inside

P8.2 Correct the gap if it is less than recommended, using an electric or hand scraper.

P8.3 Check the hinges and locks for quality and mounting. If the mounting is insufficient, tighten the screws. When a screw hole has been stripped out, drill out (>14mm) and fill with DRY FLEX® 1 or BIO FLEX® COOL. After curing and removal of the top layer (amine layer) by sanding, drill the new screw hole in the DRY FLEX® after which a new corrosion resistant screw can be fitted. Please note the compatibility of this screw with existing fittings (e.g. stainless steel does not tolerate galvanised material).

P8.4 Check the bare wood for flaws and, if necessary, follow the repair guideline for rotating parts (art. 2.3).

P8.5 Carefully remove wood debris and dirt.

P8.6 Treat according to painting advice. Always use a primer as a base. When time is important factor a quick drying primer can be used.
