P7 Rounding of weathered and/or sharp edges

Rounding off weathered and sharp edges is crucial for improving paint adhesion. By softening sharp edges, the paint adheres more effectively, reducing the risk of peeling. This contributes to a more durable and long-lasting paint finish.

What do you need?

Required equipment:
– Handheld router

Working methods

P7.1 Check the surfaces to be treated for soundness (too soft, crumbling), weathering and degradation. If this occurs, use the router equipped with a half-round bit (diameter 9.5 mm, speed 22,000 rpm) and remove the degraded wood. Then follow the curative procedures.

P7.2 Set the handheld router for use in accordance with the operating information and instructions. Provide the router with a round-off cutter with a radius of 5 mm. For heavily weathered edges, use a round-off cutter with a radius of 8 mm.

P7.3 Make a test run. If necessary, correct the setting of the router.

P7.4 Round off all relevant edges. Only in cases where the router cannot round the edge to the end is it possible to ‘imitate’ this operation by mechanical sanding.

P7.5 Treat according to painting advice. Always use a primer as a base. When time is an important factor a quick drying primer can be used.

The number behind the type DRY FLEX® refers to the curing time. It should be noted that the curing time of the products depends on the applied layer thickness and the temperature of the surrounding environment.
